I really struggle to make myself finish self help books.
The harder mom life has gotten, the harder it is for me to make myself read books that I know that will help me in motherhood and life.
Don't get me wrong... I love to order these books but too often they accumulate on my bedside table. It's as if I wish that I could learn all of the benefits my osmosis.
The funny part is that I do actually read a lot. I read 2-3 books a week because reading is my go to creative outlet in this season of motherhood. I read all kind of books but am currently on a rom com kick.
But I've learned that to make myself read non-fiction books around parenting, ADHD, and personal improvement, I need accountability and urgency.
I added a book club to the Master the Mundane community a few months ago and it's been an absolute delight.
Each month we read a book and then gather on our online meeting room (similar to zoom) to discuss the book.
I've found that I often have my biggest insights once I can verbalize and process my thoughts with others. I also love hearing what others took away and then we help each other to clarify one or two key takeaways that we can work on implementing to avoid overwhelm.
But mostly, I really appreciate the accountability to read these books and the ongoing mental challenge that they provide.
I recently compiled our reading list for the Master the Mundane Book Club for 2024.
January: The Clutter Connection by Cassandra Aarssen
February: The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk
March: Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne
April: ADHD for Smart Ass Women by Tracy Otsuka
May: Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay C. Gibson
June: 12 Principles for Raising a Child with ADHD by Russell A. Barkley
July: Organizing for the Rest of Us, Dana K. White
August: How to Do the Work by Dr. Nicole LePera
September: The Explosive Child by Dr. Ross Greene
October: Your Brain is Not Broken by Dr. Tamara Rosier
November: Tell Yourself a Better Lie by Marisa Peer
December: Good Inside by Dr. Becky Kennedy
Let's be honest, most of us probably cram to read the book the week before we read it!
But we actually read the books instead of that stack of unread books growing taller and taller.
We are learning new strategies and implementing them in to our daily lives to become better versions of ourselves.
I'm share this book list here because all are welcome to read along with us. Get the book and then chime in on my instagram stories each week with your takeaways. Go here to buy the books.
The live discussions will be for those inside my paid small group coaching community, Master the Mundane. Read here for more info on joining Master the Mundane.
Happy Reading!
